KENYA’S Agnes Ngetich set a new world record in the women’s 10km this week, and what a record!
World records in athletics are often just broken by tenths of a second but Ngetich absolutely smashed the previous mark by a mammoth 28 seconds at the 10K Valencia Ibercaja in Spain. Her time of 28min 46sec meant she was the first woman to ever run under 29min, but was followed over the line 11sec later by another Kenyan, Emmaculate Anyango, who became the second woman to do it!
Emma Raducanu has suffered a lot from injuries over the last two seasons, but her Grand Slam return started with a win in the first round of the Australian Open. It didn’t go too well for Andy Murray, who lost in straight sets and said it could be his last appearance at the tournament. It was also an unhappy week for rugby union side Saracens, who suffered their worst ever European defeat when they were thrashed 55-15 by Bordeaux Bègles in the Champions Cup.
If it’s goals you want, Aston Villa are clearly the team to watch. Unai Emery just set an extraordinary record as Villa boss, as his first ever 0-0 draw came in his 97th game in charge, the longest ever run in the Premier League.
