Braydon’s on the ball

It was a quiet weekend in the Premier League, with only five games played due to the winter break. But within the limited number of fixtures we saw one of the most entertaining games of the season in Man City’s win at Newcastle. It was real end-to-end stuff, with City dominating the early possession and going 1-0 up thanks to an icecool finish from Bernardo Silva. The technique to be able to steer the ball in with a flick on the halfvolley was incredible, and he made it look easy.

Newcastle came roaring back with two great goals of their own, the first from Alexander Isak, who blasted past Stefan Ortega in the City net. Then just two minutes later Anthony Gordon hit City on the break and curled a beauty into the bottom corner. I’ve mentioned Gordon and his form before, and he’s establishing himself as a key player in the Newcastle team. With City though, you can never count them out, and on 70mins, along came the long-awaited return of Kevin De Bruyne, who showed just what City and the Premier League have been missing. He stroked a shot into the bottom corner within five minutes of his return to make it 2-2, and then in injury time he played a ball to Oscar Bobb, who rounded the keeper and gave City the win. What a game!

In the other main weekend highlights, Man United drew 2-2 with Spurs, and Cole Palmer was the match winner for Chelsea in their 1-0 win over Fulham. Palmer has been the star of the show for the Blues since his summer move from City and has been Chelsea’s best player by far this season.

Luton earned a point with a last-gasp equaliser at Burnley, who felt that keeper James Trafford was fouled in the build-up to the late Luton goal. Fair to say Vincent Kompany wasn’t very impressed with the decision!

Everton managed a 0-0 draw with Aston Villa. After an early scare, a goal from Àlex Moreno put Villa in the lead, but the goal was ruled out by VAR. After that, Everton kept it tight and took a point at home to the in-form Villa.

Braydon’s Team of the Week: Has to be Man City. A great performance in a tough away game. Braydon’s Player of the Week: King Kevin De Bruyne is back!
